The constraint

The moment you most need communications is the moment the network is gone. Earthquakes, floods, and fires take down cell towers and power exactly when responders and residents depend on them.

And the emerging smart-city sensor layer (air quality, water level, structural, environmental) needs to report from thousands of points where running power and fiber to each is economically impossible. Both problems share a root cause: conventional networking assumes infrastructure that either fails in a crisis or costs too much to deploy at sensor scale.

What we built

nMesh is a low-energy, self-organizing mesh network built on LoRa long-range radio. Nodes discover each other and form the network automatically, with no central tower and no fixed infrastructure: every node relays for its neighbors, so the network routes around damage and extends itself as nodes are added.

Power draw is low enough for battery and solar operation measured in months to years, not hours, which is what makes both use cases viable.

Two deployments, one platform

  • Emergency response

    A rapidly deployable comms layer that stands itself up where the grid and cell network have failed, carrying messages, telemetry, and location data across a disaster zone with no surviving infrastructure.

  • Smart-city infrastructure

    A city-scale sensing fabric where thousands of low-power nodes report environmental and structural data over years on a single battery, with no wiring per node.

Why it matters

nMesh moves Notum into critical infrastructure, a category valued for its stickiness and its public-sector pull. It also connects to the search-and-rescue thesis: the same disaster where nMesh carries the comms is the one where an autonomous quadruped searches the rubble. That is a platform story, not a point product.
